Greyhound Dog Racing Tips.
Some people go for fun. Other people go to make money. Are you trying to do both? If so, I wish you the best of luck, but I don't see much chance of your success. One of the surest ways to lose your shirt at the track is by being hazy about what you're trying to do there.
There have been times in my life when I played the dogs - and the horses - purely to make money. Most of the time now though, I go to the track for entertainment and socializing. I bring a certain amount of money with me, leave the rest at home and don't worry about making a big profit.
On most programs, I do make a profit, which is nice. But that's not the main reason I'm there. If you've never thought about it before, now would be a good time to explore your reasons for playing the greyhounds. Until you do that, you don't really have the right mindset to do either - have fun or make money - there.
If you just like spending an afternoon at the track with some friends, then why spend hours going over your programs and being all serious about it? Lighten up. Of course, you'll want to handicap and pick some winners, but you won't want to spend the time you'd spend on it if you were trying to make a living at the dogs.
If you're there to make money, it's a whole different ball game. You need to be very, very serious about handicapping. You also have to have discipline, good money management techniques and forgo socializing if you want to be successful. No one is able to think clearly and quickly if they're shooting the breeze with their friends and listening to what THEY think about the dogs they've handicapped.
So, before your next trip to the track, think about your reason for going. If you just want to have fun, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Take the amount of money you can afford to lose and enjoy yourself. But if you want to make a steady profit at the races, get serious. Do your homework and learn how to handicap like a professional, because that's what you're trying to be.
