Win at the Dog Track With a Different Approach

Greyhound Dog Racing Tips.

Handicapping greyhound races and picking winners seems like a pretty clear-cut process. You find the best dog and it wins the race and you get your money. Or, you find a dog that looks like the best dog, but isn't, and it loses and you lose too.

Sounds pretty cut and dried, doesn't it? But unfortunately, it's not that simple. Greyhound handicapping is more gray than black-and-white. The best dog doesn't always look like the best dog. Worse yet, the best dog doesn't always win.

Because a dog race involves 8 dogs, running at speeds of over 35 mph around a track with four turns, all trying to run where they want to run and beat the other dogs to the lure, the outcome is never a sure thing. The best effort a handicapper can make is only that - an effort. Good handicappers know this and aren't upset when they don't hit every race they play.

However, even though there's more than one way to pick winners, there is "one right way" to do that. The right way to pick winners is your way. That's right. Whatever works for you at the dog track is the best way for you. This can be a combination of handicapping systems, knowledge you've gained over the years, inside information and even hunches.

Trying to handicap the way your friend or some famous handicapper does it isn't likely to work for you, unless you're a complete newbie. What does work is developing methods that pick winners or quinielas or whatever you play. Work on this and don't worry if someone tells you that it's the wrong way. If it works, it's the right way for you.

Of course, if what you're doing doesn't work, maybe it's time to find a better way to pick dogs.
