Greyhound Handicapping - Top Tips For Spring Racing

Greyhound Dog Racing Tips.

We're all happy to see spring weather, but sometimes it can make betting on dog races more difficult. What with the rain and the mud and the change in time, it's no wonder that the dogs and the bettors get a little off-stride. Then there's the added confusion of dogs going into heat or having puppies. How can you make money in spite of all this?

First of all, relax. Most of the rules for smart handicapping still apply in the spring, just like they do year 'round. With a few modifications, you should be able to do just fine through the spring months. Just make sure that you know when to adjust your betting strategy.

For instance, spring rains can make for muddy tracks or wet tracks. Notice that they're two different things. When a track is muddy, it makes for heavy going for the dogs - literally. They have to slog their way through the mud and it slows them down. This is when you want to look for dogs who get out fast, because they have a BIG advantage over dogs who break more slowly and then gather speed.

On a wet track, however, what seems to matter quite a bit is the weight of the dog. I don't know how many times I've seen quinielas with the two heaviest dogs and even trifectas with the three heaviest. Not every race, and the effect seems to fade as the races proceed through the program, so play this in the first four races on the program when the track is wet.

Along with watching for dogs who have their mind on mating rather than running, the track condition is the most important factor to watch for in the spring. Keep this advice in mind and you'll be way ahead of most of the other bettors this spring.
