Greyhound Handicapping Systems - How Much Should You Bet on Each Race

Greyhound Dog Racing Tips.

Many bettors use the Pocket Method of deciding how much to bet. Whatever they have in their pocket is what they bet on a program. They just pull out some money and bet on the first race and keep betting whatever they feel like betting until they're out of money. This is insanity.

Failing to plan is planning to fail in this case. Smart bettors know how much to bet because they've done some planning first. My recommendation is that you figure out how much you can afford to lose way before you go to the track. No matter what you want to bet, you're smart to take care of your obligations and only use "extra" money for wagering until you're very good at it.

So, once you know how much you have to spend on a program, figure out how many races you want to bet. I've said it before and I'll say it again: No one should ever bet every race on the program. If you like something in every race, pick the races that you feel give you the best chance of winning.

Bet those races first and then, if you win, bet on the other races that you're not so sure about. When you think about how much to bet on each race, keep in mind how much confidence you have in the picks for that race and the total amount of money you have to bet.

Figure out your bets on paper first, adding up the amount as you go along. If you find that you run out of money before you run out of bets, you have some decisions to make. Are you going to bet more on one race and less on another race?

Are you going to cut back on some bets on some races in order to bet more on other races? Or, are you going to change the type of bets? For instance, if you're betting a box bet, can you change it to a key or wheel bet?

This is how you decide how much to bet on each race. It's a process that takes some time and shouldn't be done just before the program starts. Ideally, you should do it at home right after you handicap your program.
