Dog Skijoring competitions are mostly held on places where there is snow or sometimes it is held every winter to other places which have different seasons. The distance of the race usually ranges from five to twenty kilometers. The longest race ever to be recorded is the Road Runner 100 which was held in Whitehorse Yukon, with a recorded distance of one hundred sixty kilometers or ninety-nine miles. In places like the United States and Canada, this Skijoring races are usually held in concurrence with the sled dog races. So, Skijoring is just another category for these places that are commonly held during the day or in the morning. In Scandinavia, this sport is closely related to Pulka which is an old Scandinavian sport.
Northern breed dogs like the Siberian husky are not the only ones that can join the dog Skijoring races. On the other hand, German short-haired pointers, pointer/greyhound mixes and Alaskan huskies ranked top in racing teams around the world.
There are times that races are prohibited especially if they are just organized by an unknown local organization. The International Sled Dog Racing Association or commonly called as the ISDRA support a lot of races in the United States and in Canada. While the European Sled Dog Racing Association or popularly known as the ESDRA supports races for European countries. Another organization is the International Federation of Sled dog Sports or also known as the IFSS which supports World Cup races all around the world and also the World Championship race for every two years. These three organizations are the only ones who can provide legal sanction for they are the authorized organizations for this kind of sport.
