Dog Racing on Your Stag Weekend

Greyhound Dog Racing Tips.

A stag weekend is all about getting together with the boys, having some drinks, laughs and a good time whilst waving goodbye to your single life. There are plenty of day time activities you can choose from on your stag weekend from paintballing, clay pigeon shooting to quad biking and all are a fantastic way of raising the spirit of your stag party. On the evening there is just as much choice for stag party activities, and if you're tired of the standard meal and a club then perhaps you should consider choosing dog racing for an entertaining twist to your stag evening?

What is greyhound racing?

Greyhound racing has been in the UK since 1926 and remains to be a very popular betting sport. With 28 licensed stadiums in the UK, you're bound to find a track near to you that you can head to on your stag evening. It involves a number of competing greyhounds in each race that chase after a mechanical rabbit known as a lure. The first dog over the finishing line wins and there can be some very close nose to nose finishes that will have you on the edge of your seat. There are a number of different races that you might see, but the most common are sprint and longer distance races and sometime they even have miniature hurdles for the dogs to jump over.

There are six traps in each race, which is a lot less than horse racing and a shorter track distance means it's easier to keep your eye on your dog the entire race which adds to the adrenaline. Unlike horse racing, the colours of each dog are based on their trap position rather than individual dog colours. This makes it easier to identify your dog in each race as the colours stay the same.

Food

Many dog tracks offer catering and bar facilities so whether you want some chips and a pint, or a sit down three course meal with a fine bottle of wine, you'll be surprised at what the different tracks can offer. Dog tracks today attract a variety of clientele from family parties, business dinners to stag groups showing that it really can appeal to many different tastes.

Why choose greyhound racing on your stag weekend?

Greyhound racing on your stag weekend is a perfect way to get the boys together over a few drinks with the added excitement of watching a live sport. If you do choose to gamble on the outcome of the races you can guarantee that your adrenaline will increase as you keep your fingers crossed. There are usually a number of betting stations throughout the stadium and you can usually bet up to a few minutes before each race. Just like horse racing, you bet on the outcome of the race so you can pick a dog to win, or the first two, or the first three to win. You can even narrow down your bet further and pick the order of the first two or three dogs. This can be tricky to get right, but if you do it could mean winning a lot more than your stake! On entry you should receive or will be able to purchase a betting booklet that contains details of each dog so you can "study the form" and try to use the information to pick a winner...or you could use the tried and tested rule of just picking a funny name.
